Intercultural education, Latina/o/x education, narrative research

I am an assistant professor in the department of curriculum and instruction at the University of Minnesota (UMN). My work examines Latina/o/x experiences across institutions as well as the ways in which the arts and the humanities can inform our understanding of various phenomena in the world. Employing narrative research methods, my current work examines migrant student experiences in the U.S. Prior to joining the faculty at the UMN, I served as a bilingual teacher, migrant educator, and as an instructor of writing and literature. I received my Ph.D. in English and Education from the University of Michigan, from which I also hold graduate certificates in Latina/o studies, environmental justice, and world performance studies. To broaden understanding of autobiographical and narrative research, I developed and have taught CI 8470, Special Topics in Autoethnography, Scholarly Personal Narrative, Testimonio.

        Doctoral Advising

I welcome advisees and co-advising relationships in my areas of interests and related fields. I have contributed to student understanding of narrative research and also welcome cross-disciplinary co-advising relationships.

        Teaching

My teaching spans undergraduate liberal education courses and doctoral-level research-depth courses. As a result, I work with and support a range of students from across disciplines, from first-year students to doctoral students. My courses incorporate multidisciplinary perspectives for advancing intercultural understanding.
