MNGOT: ESL and world language MEd and licensure
The application for the University of Minnesota Grow Your Own Teachers (MNGOT) K-12 ESL and world language (WL) program is now closed for the 2025 cohort.
This pathway is designed for individuals with a bachelor's degree and who are interested in earning a master's degree and license in K-12 ESL and/or WL.
- Earn a Tier 3 K-12 ESL and/or a K-12 world language teaching license
- Earn a master's of education degree
- Paid student teaching residency fellowship during student teaching
- Programming option for Tier 1 and Tier 2 teachers
- Scholarships for tuition

- Educational assistants or paraprofessionals
- Substitute/reserve teachers who hold only a substitute teaching license

Program features
- Earn a $35,000 for a paid residency fellowship for field experience and student teaching
- Generous tuition scholarships
- A teacher community (cohort)
- Hybrid coursework; four in person Saturdays/semester with zoom/online classes weeknights and Saturdays
- Innovative, equity-driven curriculum
- University mentoring throughout the program
- Tier 1 and Tier 2 teachers can complete the program while continuing to work
Additional program information
Tuition and financial aid information
We are able to offer a reduced rate for the teaching license and degree. In addition, working is allowable during at least the first year of the program, depending on individual student teaching scenarios and district employment opportunities. Generous scholarships are available for eligible students.
Application, dates, and deadlines
- August 1, 2024: Application opens
- December 15, 2024: Priority application deadline
Please note: an interview and admission decision will occur following each application deadline. Candidates only need to participate in one application round.
