C&I and OLPD Hosts Talk on How Schools Construct Identity in Education
This past week, CEHD’s Departments of Curriculum & Instruction and Organization Leadership and Policy Development hosted UCLA Assistant Professor Laura Chávez-Moreno, author of, How Schools Make Race: Teaching Latinx Racialization in America (2024). The event, a part of the ongoing Racial Justice & Equity talk series, drew an audience of 45 graduate students and faculty from various departments across the College and University. The discussion provided a vital platform for engagement with critical issues of racial justice and equity in educational settings.
Associate Professor Keitha-Gail Martin-Kerr from the Department of Curriculum & Instruction (C&I) spearheaded the talk series, and co-hosted this month’s event with C&I Associate Professor Blanca Caldas Chumbes and Department of Organizational Leadership and Policy Development (OLPD) Assistant Professor, Darrius Stanley.
As the final talk of the spring semester, this session marked a strong close to the series. We look forward to returning next fall with more opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration and are excited to further foster partnerships while expanding and promoting knowledge sharing across the college.
